Albert E Wehrli, 85, of Norwich, NY and Hobesound, FL, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at Chenango Memorial Hospital with family by his side.
Born on April 11, 1930, in Mineola, NY, Albert was the son of Albert J. and Marie (Zuppiger) Wehrli. He attended school in Westbury, in Long Island, where he graduated in 1948. He later moved to South Plymouth, NY.
Albert worked a variety of jobs over the years including driving a school bus, hauling milk and working on his father’s dairy farm. He later started his own business, Wehrli Excavating, which he oversaw and operated until his retirement in 1990. Albert had a passion for operating heavy equipment.
Albert was a member of St. Bartholomew’s church. During his leisure time, he enjoyed volunteering for Big Brother-Big Sister, at St. Bartholomew’s Church, and in the Martin County schools in Florida. He also enjoyed fishing and gardening. He was a regular blood donor, and loved spending time with family and friends.
On November 20, 1966, Albert married Catherine (Meade) Wehrli who survives. He is also survived by his children Sandra Wood and her husband, Amos, Sue Kobylack and her husband, Ed, Debbie Rothwell and her husband, Tom, Bruce Cole and his wife, Amy, Linda Hryb and her husband, David, Beth Shrader and her husband, Bob, Cindy Brown and her husband, Bill, Brian Cole, Andrew Wehrli and his wife, Kara, and James Wehrli. He is also survived by 26 grandchildren and 14 fourteen great-grandchildren. Albert was predeceased by his brothers, Bruce and Robert Wehrli.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Albert at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 28, 2015, at St. Bartholomew’s Church where Rev. Ralph Bove, pastor, will officiate. There will be no calling hours. A private burial will take place in the spring at St. Paul’s Cemetery.
