Joanne Stillman

Joanne D. Stillman of Hilton Head, SC died May 3, 2014 at Memorial Hospital in Savannah, GA with her family at her side.

She was born in Utica, NY on July 1, 1933, the daughter of the late Henry Turner Dorrance and Rose Holfelder Dorrance.

Joanne graduated from New Hartford Central School, New Hartford, NY in 1951, Wellesley College in 1955 and Syracuse University in 1963 with a Masters in Elementary Education. Throughout her career as a teacher, she was loved and respected by her many students.

On June 30, 1956, she married Paul O. Stillman in New Hartford, NY. She is survived by her husband Paul; children Jacqueline, Phillip, and Deborah; and seven grandchildren: Jamie, Jonathan, and Libby Stillman of Sterling, MA; Will and Corey Stillman of Matthews, NC; Katie and Brian Halowack of Norwell, MA. She was predeceased in death by her son Robert.

Joanne was a member of the Low Country Wellesley Club, the South Carolina and Georgia Junior League and the Sea Pines Country Club. Mrs. Stillman was also a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church.

She was an avid swimmer and tennis player in her youth, golfer, patron of the arts, and enjoyed spending time in her gardens.

A private graveside memorial service and internment will be held in Forest Park Cemetery in Camden, NY at a later date. There will be no calling hours.
