Irmin A. Mody, 91 years old, of Sherburne, NY, died peacefully with his family by his side on August 24th, 2021 at UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital.
Born in Utica, NY, on May 17, 1930, he was the son of Anthony and Rose Mody and the youngest sibling of Jeanette Newman, Lila Marano (deceased), and Amy Mody (deceased).
Irmin’s family moved to Sherburne when he was an infant and he resided there his entire life. He was a 1948 graduate of Sherburne High School and a Wall of Honor inductee there in 2017. Irmin was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1951 and stationed overseas in Europe. Upon his return, he worked for the family business, Mody’s Restaurant, and in the mid 1960’s he began his love of land management by starting Evergreen Forest Products, notably known for his Christmas Tree Farms. At that time, Irmin was an avid hunter and trained his own dogs for bird hunting. He also developed great skill at handicapping horses at Vernon Downs Race Track.
In the late 1960’s, Irmin started his life’s final professional passion, Irmin A. Mody Real Estate, eventually moving his main office to Norwich, NY and was faithfully there seven days a week until a few days prior to his passing; spanning 50+ years in the business. His achievements and impact on Chenango County are immeasurable placing thousands of residents in area homes, developing land for commercial use, negotiating industry into the area, and mentoring many of the area's real estate brokers and agents into their own businesses. Irmin held many voluntary positions within the business community and area boards and sponsored numerous youth and adult sports teams.
In 1964, Irmin married the love of his life, Mary Jean Elia, of Norwich, NY and is survived by her and their three children, Thomas Mody (spouse, Lisa) of Norwich, NY, Lisa Mody (spouse, Hilary) of Las Vegas, NV, and Natalie Chriss (spouse, Ronnie) of Alameda, CA. He is also survived by his five grandchildren, Antonia (19), Zadie (16), Julian (15), Penelope (11), and Gisella (6).
Though Irmin rarely missed any activity or performance by his children and grandchildren, two personal passions dominated his free time most of his adult life: poker and golf.
