Betty S. Abraham

Betty S. Abraham, 97, of Norwich, died on Tuesday, April 30, 2024 at the New York State Veterans’ Home with her family by her side.


Born on July 8, 1926, in Norwich, Betty the daughter of the late Frank, Sr. and Ethel (Holliday) Dalrymple. She graduated from Norwich High School with the Class of 1944 and worked at both Victory Markets and the Norwich Pharmacal Company.


On September 21, 1946, she married Sheldon T. Abraham. Together, they would have two daughters. Betty cared for her children at home and later helped her husband in his real estate business – M. P. Realty in Norwich. Betty and Sheldon also owned the Fliteline Motel on Route 12 North in Norwich and built the Mead’s Pond mobile home park.


In retirement, Betty and Sheldon loved traveling including visiting all 50 states. They also traveled to Ireland, England, New Zealand, Nova Scotia, and many parts of Europe. Together, Betty and Sheldon spent winters in Florida and spent summers in Norwich. She was a volunteer greeter at the Chenango County Historical Society and a volunteer at both the Paperback Book Exchange and Pink Door. Betty later lived at the Chenango Valley Home in Norwich. She enjoyed sewing, reading, and listening to audio books.


Betty is survived by her daughters, Donna (Patrick) Lee, of Davenport, FL, and Linda (Patrick) McNeil, of Norwich; grandchildren; Jeremy (Jennifer) McNeil, Tiffany (Jeff) Clark, Jeffrey (Heather) Lee, and Jennifer Nelson; great grandchildren, Emily McNeil, Daniel McNeil, Spencer Clark, Shelby (Jon) Sortino, Amanda (Jacob) Nichols, Brice Nelson, Cory Nelson, and Kennedy Clark; great great grandchild, August Batchhelder, Mia Nichols, and Sutton Sortino; niece Sharon (Will) Ryan; and nephews, Mark Dalrymple and Terry (Susan) Clark. She was predeceased by her husband after 57 years of marriage on April 28, 2003; brother, Frank Dalrymple, Jr. (Lenora Lee); and a niece, Christine Dalrymple.


A memorial service for Betty will be held Friday, June 21, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the Broad Street United Methodist Church, 74 North Broad Street, Norwich, NY 13815, where the Rev. Mary Rublee, pastor, will officiate. Friends are invited to the Church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will occur in North Norwich Cemetery.


Contributions in memory of Betty may be made the NYS Veterans’ Home Activity Department, 4207 State Highway 220, Oxford, NY 13830.


Funeral arrangements were conducted with the Wilson Funeral Home.
