Jay R. Brooker Sr., 75, a lifelong resident of Norwich, passed away on Wednesday, October 23, 2019, from complications arising from a recent surgery at Albany Medical Center.

Born on November 26, 1943, Jay was the son of Kenneth and Ava (Yeomans) Brooker. He attended Norwich City Schools and graduated with the Class of 1963. After graduating, he worked for a time at the Norwich Shoe Co., but worked thereafter and for the remainder of his career as an auto mechanic for both Christman’s Chevrolet and the Benedict Corporation, having retired from Benedict’s.

In addition to his parents, Jay was predeceased by his sister, Judy Brooker. He is survived by his son, Jay R. Brooker Jr., of Petersburg, NY; brothers Ronald (Emily) Brooker, of Sherburne, and Kenneth (Gladys) Brooker, of New Paltz, NY; sisters Shirley Whaley and Shelvy (Ernest) Schraft, each of Norwich; and many nieces and nephews.

To honor Jay’s wishes, there will be no funeral services or calling hours.

Jay was a friend since School, always a friendly Hi. It was hard to visit , usually on the street, knowing of his health struggles. Yet he always showed great spirit and sense of humor. In our eyes Jay was a great friend and person. Know he will be in our thoughts and prayers for his family. K.nowing he is now in God's presence with no more pain
