William L. “Bill” Hatton, 72, of Maple Street, passed away on Thursday, May 9, 2019, at his
residence with his family by his side.

Born on November 1, 1946, in Norwich, William was the son of Carl E. and Ida May (Borst)
Hatton. Bill was a twin, and one of his parents’ eight children. He attended Norwich City
Schools, then went to work in the Mendel slaughterhouse for 22 years, Norwich Shoe Co. for
eight years, then as a senior recycling attendant for Chenango County’s waste management
facility for 20 years. For 25 years, Bill and his family also helped keep the Chenango
Fairgrounds clean during fairground events. Bill enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping, and for
many years “called Bingo” for the St. Bartholomew’s and St. Paul’s Church bingo events. He
also enjoyed traveling to South Carolina to visit his brother.

Most of all, Bill was devoted to his five children and their families. He always put his family
first. He is survived by his children David (Joel Birchenough), Carl (Ashley), Richard
(Cassandra), Wendy (John), and Susie (Daniel), each of Norwich, and 16 grandchildren. One
great-grandchild is soon to be born. Bill is also survived by his siblings Leatrice (Russell) Chase,
Elaine (Joe) Mason, Kurt (Kim) Hatton, Shirley Reigles, Roger (Brenda) Hatton, and Wilson
Hatton (Bill’s twin), several nieces and nephews, and by the mother of his children,
Kathryn Pattee. He was predeceased by his brother, Henry.

Friends and family are invited to call at the Wilson Funeral Home on Thursday, May 16, 2019,

Mr Hatton was who my wife and I called him. He is a true testament to loving his family and following through with caring and loving each one.
His love came full circle when time came for him to prepare to depart. His kids treated him like they were treated through love and compassion. Each time we met one of the kids they were always willing to talk about their dad and how he was doing. We thank you for that.
You all will be rewarded when your time comes. Financially we may be challenged but with life we have treasures you can’t buy for any price.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this hard time.
Sandy (Mrs. Smith) and Bob
