After relocating to the Chenango County area with his family, Abe attended and graduated from Sherburne Central Schools. He was a very talented athlete, and excelled in several sports in high school. Soon after graduating, he proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Germany.

He worked for many years as a regional sales manager for the Frito Lay Company in Binghamton. For a short time he also bought and operated a bar and restaurant called, Abe’s Place, in Sherburne. In 1972, Abe returned to sales work for both the International Paper Company and Girton Sales before retiring.

On June 23, 1956, at St. Paul’ Church, in Norwich, Abie married his beloved wife, Virginia “Ginny” Esgro. Virginia died on September 4, 2012. After their retirement, they moved to Florida where they lived for seven years before returning to Norwich to be closer to their newborn grandson. Then soon after Ginnny’s passing, Abe moved to Argyle to be near both his daughter and grandson. Abe returned to Norwich in February of 2019.

Abe was also active in local politics and served as an Alderman for Ward 1 of the City of Norwich Common Council during the 2000’s. He was also an active member of the Elk’s Lodge #1222, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2782, Lt. Warren E. Eaton, DSC, American Legion Post 189,and the Robert E McNeil Knights of Columbus Norwich Council #211. He was a communicant of St. Bartholomew’s Church, and after Abe retired, served as a bailiff for the local courts.

Abe is survived by his daughter, Jo Ann M. Trinkle, and grandson, Brandon Riley Trinkle, both of Argyle, NY. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, including his special niece, Jeannie DeSantis, of California. Abie was predeceased by his sisters Rose, Helen, and Jennie.

A memorial service for Abe will held on May 10, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Chapel in St. Paul’s Cemetery. Burial will immediately follow. There will be no calling hours.
