Locally Owned and Independent…There IS a difference

In recent years, there has been a growing trend toward consolidation in the funeral home industry.  Many neighborhood funeral homes are thought to be locally owned, but are often owned by national, publicly-traded corporations.  For example, one such corporation that operates locally, but is headquartered in Houston, TX, owns over 1,500 funeral homes and cemeteries in 43 states.  This type of ownership can lead to service offerings that may be more dependent upon and responsible to its corporate investors, executives, and corporate quotas than to your needs.

Unlike funeral homes that are part of such large corporate organizations, the Wilson Funeral Home is owned by a local family that has been caring for your family, friends, and neighbors for over 60 years.  These fellow Norwich neighbors also oversee the funeral home, and each actively participates in Norwich community affairs.

When considering the unique services like those needed to care for your deceased loved-one and grieving family members, local ownership and knowledge of local traditions might be especially important to you.  If so, ask who owns and operates the funeral home you are considering.
