Bruce Cramer

Bruce J. Cramer, 83, of South Broad Street, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 27, 2011, at the Norwich Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Born in Norwich on October 17, 1928, Bruce was the son of Jay D. and Ethel (Jones) Cramer.  He graduated in 1947 from Norwich High School and in 1953 began working at the former General Laboratories Associates.  He retired from Hercules/B.F. Goodrich in 1992 after over 39 years of service.  He was a senior planner at the time of his retirement.

Bruce was a member of the Broad Street United Methodist Church.  During his leisure time, he enjoyed coin collecting and jigsaw puzzles.

On May 20, 1954, in Waterville, Bruce married Phyllis J. Ramsdell, who survives.  He is also survived by his children and their spouses, Cynthia and Donald Meixner, of Jordan, NY, Donna Deuel (Tom Pratt) of Cazenovia and Steven and Vickie Cramer, of Taylorsville, NC; nine grandchildren, Rebekkah (Michael Hanks), Geoffrey, Gregory, Michael (Becky), Joshua (Jenna), Jennifer, Daron, Devon and Darek; and three great grandchildren, Kristopher, Elora, and Jameson.  Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Memorial services for Bruce will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at the Broad Street United Methodist Church.  Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery.  There will be no calling hours.

Charlotte Aldrich

Charlotte L. Aldrich, 88, of Tiffany Road passed away Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at the Chenango Memorial Hospital.

Born February 7, 1923 on the family farm in the Town of New Berlin, Charlotte was the daughter of Hugh and Clara (Anderson) Lingee.  She graduated from New Berlin High School with the class of 1940.  She then received her Bachelor’s Degree from Oneonta State Teacher’s College in 1944.  Charlotte spent her entire teaching career in Norwich, beginning at the former South Broad Street School, eventually moving on to Perry Browne where she later entered administration and served as the Assistant Principal and then Principal.  She retired in 1981.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church for over fifty years and a past member of the Norwich Educators Organization and of the New York State Administrators Association.

On July 9, 1947, Charlotte married Robert E. Aldrich.  Robert died on September 17, 2004.  She is survived by sisters-in-law, Viola Aldrich, of Otego and Geraldine Briscoe of Unadilla.  Also surviving are nieces and nephews, Wesley and Elaine Aldrich and family, Shirley and Gilbert Porter, Barbara and Alfred Finch and family, A. William and Karen Rutherford and family, Donna and Fred Murray and family, Sandra and Robert Hopkins and family, Linda Rae and Ron Avolio and family, and Michael Aldrich.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2011 at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home.  Friends are invited to call at the funeral from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service.  Burial will follow the service at St. Paul’s Cemetery.

Donald Allyn

Donald W. Allyn, 80, formerly of Norwich, died on Thursday, October 20, 2011 at Roosevelt Hospital in New York City.

Born in Syracuse on September 8, 1931, he was the son of Cecil and Christine (Robinson) Allyn, long-time residents of Norwich.  Donald attended schools in Cortland, Sherburne and Norwich, and received degrees at the University of Rochester and the University of Michigan.

Beginning in 1955, Mr. Allyn held various professional positions at the New York Public Library system, where he worked for more than 42 years.  He retired in 1998, and was active in volunteer projects, including some sponsored by the Riverside Church, where he was a member.

A committal service will be held at the Mt. Hope Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, October 24, 2011, with the Rev. David Spiegel, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Norwich, officiating.

Beatrice Farnham

Beatrice B. Farnham, 88, of Rexford Street, passed away on Friday, October 14, 2011 at Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton.

Born in Norwich on October 3, 1923, Bea was the daughter of Frank and Lillian (Lawton) Brewer.  She graduated from Norwich High School with the Class of 1942.  On July22, 1944, in St. Paul’s Church, Bea married Gerald F. Farnham.  Gerald died on September 3, 1988.  After working for a short time as a legal secretary, Bea dedicated herself to raising her family.  Later she did clerical work for the Chenango County Alcohol and Drug Abuse Services.

Bea was an active member of St. Paul’s Church, the Ladies of Charity, the Altar & Rosary Society as well as the former St. Paul’s Mother’s Club.  She was a Eucharistic Minister and also helped on the Funeral Hospitality Committee.  She volunteered her services at the local food pantries and at Guernsey Library as well as serving as a Girl Scout Leader.

Bea is survived by her eight children and their spouses, Donna  and Warren Snyder of Sebring, FL, Gerald and Constance Farnham, of York, PA, Raymond and Ann Farnham, of Atherton, CA, Kathleen Farnham, of Binghamton, Robert and Catherine Farnham, of Fort Myers, FL, James and Janet Farnham, of New Paltz, NY, Timothy Farnham, of Norwich and Peter Farnham, of Dallas, TX; nine grandchildren, Stacy, Sydney, Geoffery, Stephanie, Kristen, Joseph, David, Kyle and Grace; one great grandson, Trystan; a brother, Ward Brewer and his wife, Betty of North Carolina and two nephews, James and Donald Brewer.  She was predeceased by an infant daughter, Elizabeth Margaret Farnham.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Bea will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, October 17, 2011 at St. Paul’s Church.  Burial will follow in St. Paul’s Cemetery.  Friends called at the Wilson Funeral Home on Saturday from 2 – 5 p.m.

George Messina

George Messina passed away on Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at the Presbyterian Nursing Home in New Hartford, NY.  He was 90 years old.

Born on January 27, 1921, in Bouckville, NY, George was the son of the late Joseph and Maria (Petri) Messina.  Along with his family, he moved to Utica at an early age.  He was educated in the local schools there and graduated from Utica Free Academy.

George was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Minneapolis in the South Pacific.  Most of his working years were spent as a salesman for Interstate Wholesale in Syracuse, New York.  He was a long time member of the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church of New Hartford, NY, and the Disabled American Veterans Charter 82 of Utica.  George was an avid golfer and enjoyed many years with his friends at the Valley View Golf Club.

George is survived by his sister-in-law Dawn Messina, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins of whom he was very fond.  He was predeceased by his brother John and sisters Mary Messina, Theresa Elia, Josephine Brennan, Roslyn Messina, and Jane Mirabito.  He was also predeceased by brother Anthony, who died in infancy.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 14, 2011, at St. Bartholomew’s Church.  Burial with military honors will follow at St. Paul’s Cemetery.  Friends are invited to call at the Wilson Funeral Home from 8:30 – 9:30 a.m. on Friday prior to the service.

Thomas Franck

Thomas R. Franck, Sr., 68, of South Broad Street, passed away on Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at his residence with his loving family by his side.

Born on April 6, 1943, in Brooklyn, New York, Thomas was the son of Marcel and Virginia (O’Brien) Franck.  After high school, Thomas matriculated at the University of Notre Dame, where he earned a bachelor’s degree.  He was also honorably discharged from the United States Navy after having served as a naval officer from 1966 – 1970.  Thomas worked for Proctor & Gamble, and retired after 30 years as marketing manager for the company.  After retiring, he enjoyed working as a consultant for a stem cell research company.

Thomas was a proud and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.  He was a regular spectator at his grandchildren’s various sporting events. In retirement, and before returning to Norwich in 2008, he spent eight years in Amelia Island, Florida, where he was an avid golfer.  He also enjoyed traveling to Europe with his wife, especially their trips to Italy.  Thomas was an accomplished carpenter, a devoted fan of Notre Dame football, and a cheeseburger connoisseur.  Thomas was also particularly fond of his bassets Prudence Ethel, Lady Victoria of Norwich, and Bella Sera.

On January, 22, 1966, in Fort Lauderdale, FL, Thomas married his beloved wife of 45 years, Salli Feldmann, who survives.  Thomas is also survived by his daughter, Melissa Supensky, and her husband, Lee, of Norwich.  He is also survived by his grandchildren Conner, Brayden, and Carter Jack Supensky, and Kyleigh, Jimmy and Mary Franck; great-grandchildren Emalynn and Haidyn Bush; and brother Marcel Franck.  Thomas Franck, Jr. and Michael Franck also survive.

Friends are invited to call at the Wilson Funeral Home on Monday, October 3, 2011, from 4 – 7 p.m.  In recognition of Thomas’ wishes, there will be no funeral service.

Lisa Brown

Lisa Francine Benedict Brown, 44, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2011 at the Wilson Memorial Hospital with her family by her side.  Born on November 18, 1966, she traded her life long battle of kidney disease, dialysis, and addictions for tranquil eternity with the Angels and the God she worshipped.

Lisa attended the Norwich City Schools and went on to receive her CNA certification.  She worked briefly at Valley View Nursing Home in Norwich and as a home health care aide.  Due to her deteriorating health, Lisa was no longer able to work.  However, she continued her nurturing and compassionate care with her fellow dialysis patients.

Lisa is survived by her mother, Agnes Edatie, and her husband, Stephan; her father, Paul Benedict, and his wife, Donna.  Lisa is also survived by her companion Melvin Taylor; her children, Tammy Graves, Amber (Zack) Schraft, Shannon Yaddow, Jennifer, Daniel, Jr. and Noah; grandchildren, David Button III, Carter and Aydrielle Schraft, and Treyden Gehring; loving sisters and brother, Paul and Angela Benedict and Stephanie Edatie,  as well as her niece and nephews, Gabrielle and Dominick Bovee and Damian Benedict.  Lisa is also survived by her maternal grandmother, Frances DiLello, as well as several aunts, uncles, and cousins.  She was predeceased by her husband, David Weeks, and infant son, Zachary.

Lisa was plagued with kidney stones from the age of seven, along with other rare illnesses for her age, which resulted in many hospital stays.  These illnesses and conditions also led to her introduction, dance, and battle with prescription medication abuse.  Such abuse is of epidemic proportions in the U.S. affecting people of all walks of life.

Funeral services for Lisa will be held Thursday, September 29, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. at the Wilson Funeral Home.  Friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. until the time of the service.

Barbara McNeil

Barbara (Bartlett) McNeil, 90, of Norwich, passed away on September 25, 2011, at the Chenango Memorial Hospital Residential Health Care Facility.  She was born on September 6, 1921 in Randallsville, NY to the late George and Maude (Soule) Bartlett.  Barbara was predeceased in 1964 by her husband, William Patrick McNeil, whom she married on February 14, 1945.

Barbara was a kind and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and she devoted her whole life to her family.  She also loved playing cards and bingo, and watching various sports on television during her leisure time.  She was particularly a fan of the New York Yankees.  While residing at Golden Age apartments, Barbara volunteered her time as the resident Treasurer.  She spent many years working as the bookkeeper for Ellinwood Auto Parts in Norwich.

Barbara is survived by her son, Emerton “John,” and his wife, Linda, of Hendersonville, NC; and daughter Barbara Schermerhorn, and her husband Walter, of Norwich.  Her grandchildren Amy (Mark) Franklin, Matthew (Kathy) Schermerhorn, Renee (Terry) Roberts, and William (Riannon) McNeil also survive.  Barbara is also survived by ten great-grandchildren:  Brandon and Blaine Franklin; Megan, William, and Connor Schermerhorn; Lindsay, Paige, and Parker Roberts; and Thad and Mackenzie McNeil; and her special niece, Marilyn Guy, of Delhi, NY.  She was also predeceased by her brothers, Donald and Emerton, and sisters, Marjorie, Armitta, Lucy, Alzada, and Abby.

Barbara’s family extends a note of thanks for the excellent care provided to Barbara by Drs. Mulik, Cook, and Brereton, and the nursing staff at the Chenango Memorial Hospital.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Barbara will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at St. Paul’s Church with Rev. Ralph Bove, pastor, officiating.  Burial will follow in St. Paul’s Cemetery.  Friends are invited to call at the church from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m.

Nancy Marchetti

Nancy E. Marchetti, 76, formerly of Norwich, passed away on Friday, September 23, 2011, in Bethel Park, PA where she resided.  Nancy was the daughter of John and Catherine (Biviano) Messina.  She was the beloved wife of the late Cireo Marchetti, who died January 13, 1991.

Nancy was a registered nurse for over 50 years, and was a long-time member of St. Valentine’s Church in Bethel Park, PA.  She enjoyed her flower garden, and always brought a smile and laughter to everyone she met.

Nancy is survived by her son, John (Diane) Marchetti, and daughter, Cathy Blough.  Grandchildren, Ashley and Kelci; sister, Anna Messina; and several nieces and nephews also survive.  Nancy was also predeceased by her sister, Mary Sparace, and brother George.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on September 26th at St. Valentine’s Church in Pennsylvania.  Graveside committal services for Nancy will be held in Norwich on Saturday, October 1, 11:00 a.m., at St. Paul’s Cemetery.  Rev. Lester Smith, Pastor of St. Malachy’s Church in Sherburne, will officiate.

Laurence Kennedy

Laurence “Larry” Kennedy, 53, of Norwich peacefully went to be with the Lord on September 2, 2011, at his home and surrounded by family.

Born in Norwich on February 12, 1958, Larry was the son of Thomas and Beverly (Wakefield) Kennedy.  He grew up in the Oxford-Norwich area and graduated from Phoenix High School in 1976.  After graduation, Larry joined the United States Navy for which he served ten years.  He did many different jobs after the Navy.  He was an entrepreneur in Norwich and took great pleasure in running his own business.

Larry was also devoted to his family and loved to spend time with his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his loving wife, Melissa (Dempsey) Kennedy, parents Thomas and Anna Kennedy; children Shannon (Jay) Smith, Sarah (Matt Lindholm) Kennedy, Erin (Thomah Scott) Kennedy, Michael (Val) Kennedy, and Joshua (Jessica) Kennedy; stepchildren Amber (Paul) McMullen, Meghan McMullen, Colleen McMullen, and Paula (Shane) Crawford; grandchildren Gavin and Garret Smith, Chelsea Kolis, Mason and Cassidy Lindholm, Allan and Andru Donnelly, Dakota Andrial, Dylan, Briana and Alex Kennedy, Jada Kennedy; stepgrandchildren P.J., Cadan, and Riley Russell, Caleb Gray, Bryshaun McMullen and Ella Blackwell, Trelane and Tarrendara Crawford, and Robby and Allanalee Button.  Little Jordan Kennedy is on the way.  Larry is also survived by brothers Ernie and Tom Cook, and sisters Jackie Boeman, Jane Cook, Vickie Hendrickson, and Annette Monday.  Several nieces and nephews also survive.  Larry was predeceased by his mother, Beverly, brother, Thomas, and granddaughter, Jade Kennedy.

In recognition of Larry’s wishes, there will be no calling hours.  A memorial gathering will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, September 18, 2011, at the VFW Post 2782, 61 E. Main Street, Norwich.
