Virginia Atkinson

Virginia Atkinson, of Howard Street, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 22, 2010 at Chenango Memorial Hospital.

Virginia was born in Norwich, the daughter of William H. and Estella G. (Mattice) Atkinson. After her schooling in Norwich, Virginia worked as a clerk at the former J.C. Penney and Bates-Troy Laundry before working for Victory Markets, retiring due to her health.

During her leisure time, she enjoyed her garden, especially her flowers.

Virginia is survived by two sisters, Marjorie Scott of Norwich and Caroline Brewster of Massachusetts and four nieces and nephews, Patricia Scott of Norwich, Beverly Johnson of Colorado Springs, CO, Donald Auwater of Prescott, AZ and Shawn Brewster of Danby, VT. She was predeceased by a brother, Carlton Atkinson and three sisters, Freida Nodecker, Evelyn Auwater and ArraWanna Stone.

Funeral services for Virginia will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, February 25, 2010 at the Wilson Funeral Home. Rev. Brian Conover, pastor of the Calvary Baptist Church, will officiate. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4 – 5:30 pm. Burial will take place in the spring in Mt. Hope Cemetery.

    To Virginia’s family and friends… Virginia and I became acquainted many years ago working in the Victory office and I so much enjoyed her and her friendship. Reading of Virginia’s passing saddens my heart. Both you and she are in my thoughts.
